On December 28, 2015, Michael Tyrone Johnson Sr., departed this life at his home in Denton, TX. Mike was born March 23, 1952 in Washington, DC, the first child of the Late Agnes Irene and Michael J. Johnson of Washington, DC. He and his younger sister, Renita A. Johnson-Leva, travelled extensively during their childhood as their father was career Air Force.
Mike has two sons, Michael T. Johnson Jr. and Sean P. Johnson.
Mike was a student athlete at and graduated from Merced Community College and an ROTC leader at Morgan State University, where he obtained his nursing credentials. He lived the early part of his adult life in Baltimore, MD, where he was a nurse at Johns Hopkins University Hospital and where his first son, Michael T. Johnson Jr. was born. He raised his son with the help of his extended family for over 20 years. He moved to Denton, TX to be with his second son, Sean and to be a part of Sean's family and community and where he was a Radiology Technician at Denton Regional Medical Center.
He loved his family and friends, sports and music. Those who knew him well would occasionally be treated to a dead-on impression of Larry Graham singing, "One in a Million" and also enjoyed Morris Day and the Time (He had the moves down) and the Fine Young Cannibals. He was a lifelong Redskins fan, even while living in the Dallas area.
Mike loved all of his family dearly even through the hardship of long distance. He would listen to any troubles you had whether he could help with them or not, as a good father would. His life was exemplified by example, but he could and did still support his philosophy through well-known quotes such as, "Mother may have, Father may have, but god bless the child who has his own" and, of course, "Blood is thicker than water" He had the "Family First" mentality… always.
He had a joy for life, touched people he met with his vitality and humorous outlook. He loved his dogs over the years, and his cats in recent years. He will be missed.
He is sustained by his Catholic faith.
