Obituary

Mickey Wayne Via, M.D. was born November 21, 1940 in Talco, Texas to Lottie Bell and James W. (Bill) Via. He grew up in Talco, and graduated from Talco High School. He received a B.S. Degree in Biology from East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma where he played football as an East Central Tiger. He then attended Tulane University on a scholastic scholarship and obtained his PhD in Anatomy.
Mickey became a Professor of Anatomy at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, but within three years he enrolled as a medical student at Southwestern. He received his M.D. degree and became an anesthesiologist, practicing in the Denton and Dallas area for thirty years.

Mickey was married for 53 years to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Martha Lewis Via. He was the proud father of two children, Mindy Via Brumbaugh and Mikael Via, and a loving father-in-law to their spouses, Roy Brumbaugh and Brenda Babcock Via.

Mickey loved his family and especially enjoyed his role as PaPa. He was a man of integrity, grit, and muscle. He exemplified the meaning of a true friend to family, friends and coworkers. Mickey lived life to the fullest, and spent his free time fulfilling his passion for fishing, hunting and sports. He was thrilled to be able to accomplish his life-long dream to design and build a lake on his farm in Winnsboro.

Mickey is survived by his wife, two children, five grandchildren, and one great-grand-daughter: Brittany Brumbaugh Doyle, Chelsey Brumbaugh Garrett, Daniel Brumbaugh, Marshall Via, Taylor Via, and Kamryn Doyle.
