Obituary

Mike Nunez of Dallas passed away on May 10, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Adela and his devoted daughter, Pamela, cherished brother Pete and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mike was born in Wharton, Texas on September 14, 1938 and graduated high school from Wharton HS. He then moved to Denton to attend North Texas State University (now UNT) where he met his wife Adela, who was attending Texas Woman's University. Mike and Adela married in 1965, living in Dallas with family-in-Christ of the late Reverend Rudy Hernandez. Daughter Pamela was born later that year. Upon receiving a Bachelor's degree in History and Spanish and a Master's degree in Education Administration, Mike began a long career as a teacher, consultant and administrator serving a number of years at the Wilmer-Hutchins ISD, the Region 10 Education Service Center, the Lake Dallas ISD, and the Coppell ISD. In 1980, Mike took a hiatus from education and moved the family to Denton, so that he could be the owner-operator of Denton's first Chick-Fil-A at the Golden Triangle Mall. He returned to the education field in 1985 and eventually retired from the Coppell ISD as Director-Administrator of the Compass DAEP. Mike's years as an educator were marked by his desire to make a difference with those students who needed the most love and guidance. Mike's loving and giving nature was also demonstrated by his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity in Denton. Mike's passions were always guided by the need to live a life that embodied his Christian faith. In 2020, after 42 years in Denton, Mike and Adela moved to Dallas to live with daughter, Pam. Through a long and labored battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Mike never lost faith in Christ, and continued to have personal daily prayer and conversations with God. Mike never wavered from providing his wife and daughter the strength and love as head of the family. He will forever be missed, he will forever be remembered as the sweet, gentle, loving, and faithful man devoted to his family and loved ones.
