IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mona Kate
Searcy Carrico
March 18, 1932 – December 22, 2021
Mona Kate Searcy Carrico, 89, of Denton, Texas, passed away on December 22, 2021, in Denton. She was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico on March 18, 1932, to John Henry and Mary Esther (MacDonald) Searcy.
She married James Wallace Carrico, Jr. (Jim), in Alamogordo, New Mexico on November 4, 1950. Jim enjoyed a career in the Air Force, so Mona enjoyed living in places as far apart as Germany, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Miami, Florida. She achieved a Bachelor's Degree in English and graduated Summa cum Laude from Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, Texas. After Jim retired from the Air Force, they settled in Denton, where Mona took a Master's Degree in Library Science at Texas Women's University, and ultimately worked for the university as a librarian until her retirement.
Mona was a very talented woman and enjoyed many of the arts. She learned to play the piano as a girl and the organ as an adult, often accompanying worship services in churches. She worked in painting, pottery, fiber arts, and enjoyed photography. But her greatest passion was genealogy and tracing her family lineage back generation after generation, including qualifying for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution through two different family lines. She traveled to many parts of the country and to Europe working on her genealogy.
What most of Mona's friends and even her family did not know was that Mona was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of .32. She was a very private person and did not share that information with many. But she was in serious pain over the years, which curtailed many of her physical activities and abilities, including her music. This puts into greater perspective her academic and professional achievements and her dedication to genealogy.
Mona became a member of St. David of Wales Episcopal Church after moving to Denton. She loved the church and the people that comprised it, and served willingly and faithfully as opportunities were available. Her greatest regret during the Covid times was that she wasn't able to be with her fellow believers.
Mona is survived by her husband, James Wallace Carrico, Jr. of Denton; her son, David Carrico of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.; her brother, Travis Searcy of Tijeras, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Jeff Carrico of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Jillian Jones of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service and Mass will be held at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Denton on Saturday January 22, 2022, at 2 p.m.
Mona requested that any memorial offerings be made to one of the following:
