Obituary

Nancy Harris passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, with her daughters, and her husband by her side. She was the loving wife of Jay Harris and the devoted mother to Jennifer, Julia, Benjamin, and James. She is survived by her husband and her four children, her sister Sue and one grandchild, Jaxson. The memories they have of her and with her are greatly cherished.

Nancy loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind, and was faithful throughout all the days of her life.

She was born on October 4, 1955, in Denver, Colorado, but grew up in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Skyline High School in 1973 before attending what is now the University of North Texas. She studied music and education. While in college, she met Jay, and they were married on May 18, 1977, in Dallas, Texas. They would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this year.

Jay and Nancy made their home in Denton, Texas and have been attending their home church, Denton Bible Church, since 1977.

Nancy played flute and piano throughout high school and college. She was a passionate lover of music and played piano whenever she got the chance over the years. She always had a new song she had heard to share with her family and friends.

Nancy loved the DBC Library and connecting all kinds of people with a special book, DVD, or any treasure the library has she thought would bless them the most. She was an integral part of the library for over 25 years. She was such a loving person and made sure everyone around her felt treasured and valued.

While it may have been hard to tell, she was an introvert and loved to cuddle up with a good book any chance she got. She read some two or three times and had an extensive home library which she freely shared with others. Visitors would often leave with two or three books.

She enjoyed online shopping (usually for gifts for others) with her trusted assistant who was cherished as family, Carrie Honeycutt.

She loved her garden and you could often find her outside tending to her flowers and enjoying the squirrels’ antics. She had the most beautiful collection of roses that she tenderly cared for.

She loved her freshly squeezed lemonade, to her last day, with NO sugar added! She was passionate about her favorite brand of coffee, black, but with salt.

She never met a stranger. She would stop to talk to anyone she came in contact with, a waiter, a store clerk, or people she would pass while out walking.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her Heavenly Father, her love for and service to her family and friends, her wisdom, kindness and steadfast faith. Our lives are forever changed and richer for knowing her.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Harris, of Denton, Texas. Her four children; daughters, Jennifer Harris of Denton, Texas and Julia Harris of Anna, Texas. Sons Benjamin Harris of Denton, Texas, and James Harris of Denton, Texas. Grandson, Jaxson Aleman, of Anna, Texas. Sister Sue Ann Shepperd of Frisco, Texas.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by Keyla Toney, RN and Silvia Valdez from Harris Hospice.
