Nancy Louise Dieterich Kurrus died December 6, 2024 in Plano, Texas. She was born on January 26, 1935 in Dallas to Louise Caillet and Arthur F. Dieterich. She was a descendant of the Reverchon family from the La Reunion colony in West Dallas.
She grew up on her family's dairy farm, Hermosa Farms, on the corner of Midway Road and Forest Lane in Dallas and attended Walnut Hill Elementary. After her family moved to Dorchester (near Sherman) in 1947, she completed seventh and eighth grades there, with both grades taught by the same teacher in one room. She was a graduate of Sherman High School and Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University). On June 5, 1957 she married Fred D. Kurrus in Sherman, Texas.
She was a founding member of the Denton Quilt Guild, the Ann's Haven Hospice Auxiliary, and the Syncopated Ladies senior tap dance ensemble. She was a volunteer at Ann's Haven for more than 25 years. She was also a member of the Dallas County Pioneer Association and the Denton County Medical Alliance, and served on the Advisory Council of the Denton Senior Center. She was a dedicated gardener, birdwatcher, and self-described nature lover who also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and word puzzles of all kinds.
Survivors include son, David Dunham Kurrus and wife Lorrie of Argyle, daughters Virginia Leigh Kurrus of Fort Collins Colorado, and Martha Louise Teague and husband Chris of Plano, and former son-in-law Brent Smith of Richardson. Also, nine grandchildren: Julie Kurrus Hamilton, Bonnie Kurrus Serra, Dixie Kurrus Sonnier, Walter Smith, Emma Smith Jacobs, Harrison Smith, Philip Teague, Margaret Teague and Andrew Teague, and ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by daughter, Barbara Jean Kurrus, 1966-1985, and husband, Fred D. Kurrus, M.D., 1935- 2018.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Denton Village West Dining Room, (Denton Good Samaritan Village), Denton, Texas.
