Nita DeBerry was carried by angels into the presence of the Lord she loved on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Atrium Medical Center in Corinth. She was born to Opal Christian Clampitt on February 17, 1936 in Bolivar, Denton County, Texas. She was the granddaughter of Walter and Laura Green Christian of Sanger, Texas and Dupree and Leona Masten Clampitt of Era, Texas. Her great grandparents Christian and Masten were early settlers of Cooke and Denton Counties. The families were farmers and Nita learned at an early age the value of hard work.
After her mother died when Nita was 13 years old, she, along with her older brother, Bud, cared for her younger brothers and sisters and reared them to adulthood.
Nita married William J. DeBerry in March 1960. The couple had three children: Bill, Jennifer, and Andrew. Nita's children were her life.
Nita retired from Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, a New York City-based engineering firm, in April 2002. She served in various executive administrative positions on the DART Project in Dallas, the Superconducting Super Collider Project in Waxahachie, and the Railtran (Trinity Railway Express) Project in Fort Worth.
Not content to be idle after retirement, Nita worked part-time for her daughter-in-law at The Florist in Denton and she later worked part-time for her niece, co-owner of Ray of Sunshine Sitting Service, sitting with elders, each of whom she grew to love. She stayed busy until her health began to fail at the end of 2007. Her remaining days were spent enjoying being at home with Miss Sadie, her cat, and learning to relax.
Nita is survived by her three children: one daughter, Jennifer and her husband John Evans of San Marcos, Texas; two sons, Bill and wife Mary Ann DeBerry of Denton, and Andrew and wife Nichole DeBerry of Krum. Her grandchildren, her angels, whom she adored, also survive her: Cody and Tyler Evans; and Justin, Erin, and Jessica DeBerry, along with their mother, Cheryl Frazier and great grandson, Waylon DeBerry. Two brothers, Les and wife Levita Clampitt of Denton, and Roger Clampitt, of Houston; and two sisters, Betty Nichols of Carrollton, and Brenda Hacker of Atlanta, Texas. She also survived by a sister-in-law Betty Ann Clampitt, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, she is survived by a long-time dear friend, Ms. Nadine Bowen of Mishawaka, Indiana, who called Nita every Sunday afternoon after learning of Nita's illness.
She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents; her older brother, Kenneth R. (Bud) Clampitt; her youngest sister, Martha Kay Clampitt; her nephew, Jeremy Clampitt; and her niece Phyllis Clampitt.
She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, 1101 Audra Ln, Denton, TX 76209 • (940) 565-1055. Memorial contrubutions may be made to her church in Nita's name.
Nita appreciated the many, many acts of kindness and care extended to her by her family and friends during her long illness. The family would now extend it's appreciation to her friend and care giver Gwen Smith and the ICU Nursing Staff at the Atrium Medical Center.
The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors for visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
Funeral Services will be: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Randy Snow officiating. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Something Beautiful, Something Good, All my Confusion, He Understood,
All I had to offer Him was Brokenness and Strife, But He made Something Beautiful out of my Life.
