Obituary

Norma Lynn Gamble, 86, of Denton, Texas passed away on December 31, 2023. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Clyde Mack and Louise Norman (Smith) Graham.

As we celebrate her life, we remember her ability to be kind, caring and intelligent as we sought her advice in many areas of our lives.  We will miss our mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

Norma Lynn grew up in Denton and married David Gene Gamble on January 25, 1958.  She graduated from North Texas University with a teaching degree and started teaching in Carrollton commuting with a group of fellow teachers.  The remainder of her teaching career was spent in Denton. She taught 4th and 6th grades at Stonewall Jackson and Rayzor Elementary schools. To this day, former students and friends say she was one of their favorite teachers in school.  She showed compassion and strictness when needed.

Norma Lynn volunteered many places throughout her life.  While she was a candy striper at Parkland Hospital, she met a little boy who had lost his parents in a house fire.  He won her heart and he responded only to her when he was in the burn unit.  Norma Lynn and Gene adopted Chester as soon as was "Norma Lynn" possible.  She had a way about her to move mountains for the people she loved.

After teaching, Norma Lynn joined Gene in his insurance agency where he sold Life and Health insurance.  She built up all other lines of business in insurance, to include Property and Casualty.  She was a natural salesperson gained from her years working at Russell's on the square while in high school. When personal computers came on the scene, she brought the agency into the computer age with Gene looking on but staying far away.

Norma Lynn was always involved in the history of Denton County and her family genealogy.  Today one can see her work in Bridges Cemetery, Denton Historical Society, Denton County Museum and various historical markers within the county.

She is survived by her husband, David Gene Gamble, son, Chester Gamble, and his wife, Sharon of Ft, Worth, TX, grandson, Matthew Graham Gamble, and his wife, Sabrina.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and sister, Carol Lynn Addington.
