Obituary

Noman Gavin Rhodes "Kelly" Pattinson, 69, of Bryan, TX, entered into his eternal rest with his family in Krum, TX, USA, on July 12, 2017.  Gavin as known to his family was the youngest son, born in Greymouth, New Zealand, to Walter and Mary Margaret Joan (Greening) Pattinson, July 1, 1948.

As a young man Gavin drove a Morris Minor Convertible and worked in the West Coast's Strongman Mine.  On January 19, 1967, Gavin's family worried of his whereabouts as there was a terrible disaster at the mine.  Gavin came home late that evening after helping many of the injured and securing the mine.  Gavin also played Rugby for the Kiwis of the New Zealand National Rugby League.

Known as a "Gentle Giant" to his friends and family in New Zealand, they were all supportive of Gavin in the early 70's when Gavin set out to conquer the world. He joined Western Geophysical from the port in New Zealand. He had stops in Singapore, Africa and London until he would finally port in Galveston, Texas in 1973, and Texas would remain his base home until his last day.  Gavin aka "Kelly the Kiwi" would travel the world for the rest of his life involved in seismic research and being Tool Pusher on oil rigs, from New Guinea to the Texas Gulf Coast, Singapore and the Ivory Coast, along with many inland operations around the world.  Kelly would later become an independent drilling consultant for companies around the world.  Kelly also owned and operated "Big Bear Day Care" in Bryan where he became affectionately known as "Mr. Kelly" to all.

Gavin is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Joan Pattinson, brother and sister-in-love, Jim and Vera Pattinson, sister and brother-in-love, Rosalie and Clarrie McGowan and nephew Robert McGowan. Significant others Marilyn Plotts and Linda Potter.

He is survived by his daughter and son in love, Sonein and Mike Noack of Krum, who cared for him in their home during his extensive heart illness. Grandsons Aaron and Gavin Noack of Krum, granddaughter Machala Noack of Krum and her fiancé Dalton Brown of Ponder.  Along with his New Zealand family, niece, Diane and her husband Stewart Whiteley, Great-Nephew Brent and Great-Niece Anna of Invercargill. Niece, Michelle McGowan and Great-Niece Jolene McGowan both of Christchurch. Niece Sandi McGowan, Great-Nephew Tycho and Great-Niece Brin McGowan of Canberra, Australia. Niece Lee Clark and Great-Nephews Chris and Jonathan of New South Wales, Australia.  Great nephews and niece Gavin McGowan of Perth, Australia, Craig McGowan, Brae McGowan along with their sister Jaymee McGowan all of Greymouth, New Zealand.  His former wife Martha Ann "Marti" Pattinson of Sugar Land and a very special niece Kelly of Minden, LA, along with her parents Harold and Tara Rotan, many cousins and many dear friends around the USA and the world.

Gavin "aka" Kelly may not have conquered the world but he certainly traveled it. He contributed greatly to the industry he loved, trained many young men (and one woman he ran off a rig) and was respected for his knowledge and dedication to the "oil patch". He lived life with passion and greatness.  He was truly a gentle and gruff giant.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date in Krum and New Zealand.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Father's Hand Foundation, P.O. Box 970, Krum, TX, 76249
