Obituary

Okey Fay (Clay) Martin of Argyle, Texas passed away peacefully in Lewisville, Texas on Sunday May 28, 2023 at the age of 84. Okey was a wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed by family and friends. She was born in Williamson, West Virginia to Okey Kelsey and Norma (Marcum)Clay on October 14, 1938.

Okey graduated from Williamson High School in 1956, and then moved to Dallas, Texas with her family. She attended North Texas State University studying Home Economics. She met her future husband backstage during a talent show at NTSU. She married Al Martin in Denton, TX on May 27, 1959. They moved to Michigan, eventually settling in Sterling Heights. While raising 3 children, Okey was active as room mother during the kids' elementary school years, was a Girl Scout Leader, and worked with Band Boosters at Stevenson High School. She worked 20+ years at Sears and retired as a store manager. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, camping with her family, and enjoyed the company of family and friends.

Okey is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 61 years, Al Martin, her sisters, Carolyn Sue Terry, and Lucia Lee Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Anne Hatchell of Argyle, Texas, sons Albert Allan Martin and John Kelsey Martin, grandson Allan Robert Martin, all from Sterling Heights, Michigan, sister Brenda Riggs of Lewisville, Texas, brother Carl Clay of Farmers Branch, Texas, and sister Myra Soto of New Braunfels, Texas.

Her final resting place will be with her husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
