IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Olen Finley
Reedy
September 16, 1950 – November 20, 2025
Olen Finley Reedy, age 75, of Denton, Texas, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Olen was born on September 16, 1950, in Matador, Texas, to Elden Lee Reedy Sr. and Frances Marie Bostick Reedy. He grew up in Odessa, Texas, where he attended school and spent his early years embracing youth, adventuring, and traveling throughout the state. In his twenties, he lived in various Texas towns before returning home to work in the family business serving the oil field industry.
Although Olen and Toni McMurry first crossed paths at Odessa High School in the late 1960s and early 1970s, they were reintroduced in the early 1980s. Three years of courtship led to their marriage on October 4, 1986. They welcomed their daughter, Chelsea Aurelea Reedy, in the summer of 1987, and Olen lovingly raised Toni's daughter, Shawna Carter Edmiston, as his own. In August 1992, Olen, Toni, and Chelsea moved to Denton, Texas, seeking greater opportunities in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. For the past 33 years, Olen took immense pride in building a life
for his family on the outskirts of town, nurturing a home grounded in love, strength, and tradition.
Olen came from a long lineage of revolutionaries, cowboys, farmers, and mechanics. His family's Texas roots reached back to the earliest days of statehood, and he was a descendant of two signers of the Declaration of Independence, including George Washington and the lesser- known Francis Lewis. Later in life, politics became a passion for Olen—perhaps inspired by the sense of civic duty carried through generations of his family who fought for liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. Though Olen made his living in the sales, service, and labor industries, he carried the heart and soul of the pioneers and cowboys who came before him. A cowboy's soul is founded from grit, responsibility, a need to roam free, a loyal heart, and the kind of quiet strength this world does not make anymore.
Olen was intelligent and endlessly curious, teaching himself about a wide range of subjects, cultures, skills, and historical events. He believed in taking pride in what you have and making it last. He enjoyed caring for and improving his home, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and fixing anything placed in his hands. His meticulous nature and eye for detail brought artistry and craftsmanship into everything he touched—whether cooking, gardening, carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, gift-giving, or expressing love. Like his forefathers, Olen was adventurous, with a
deep desire to explore and understand the world. He was kind to neighbors, gentle with animals, and strong and athletic in his youth—strength that he carried with him as he guided his family through life. He loved deeply and expressed that love through heartfelt words, thoughtful gifts,
and acts of service. The spirit of the 1960s and 1970s lived on in him—in the songs he sang, his beliefs, his kindness, his creativity, and his personal sense of freedom.
Olen survives by his wife, Toni Reedy; daughters Chelsea Reedy and Shawna Edmiston; son-in- law Shane Edmiston; his grandchildren Hope Moore, Holly Baumann and Nick Baumann; and great-granddaughters Ember, Violet, and Rose Baumann. He also leaves his brother Elden Lee
Reedy Jr. and his wife Debbie Reedy, his niece Lauren Kello, and her husband Lamar Kello, two grandnephews, and his younger sister. Olen was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. Every good cowboy knows the ride ends someday—but the
legend never does.
