Ona Hoke Shirley, 90, of Denton, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013. She was born on February 17, 1923 in Bradshaw, Texas to Martin Luther Hoke and Ethel June Tindle Hoke. She moved to Denton on her 14th birthday. She studied art at Texas State College for Woman, now TWU. Ona married Jack Shirley in 1942 who preceded her in death in 2002.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 6-8 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Ona is one of 9 children and is survived by her daughter, Linda Shirley of Houston; sisters, Josephine Lawyer of Denton, Clydene Shields of Auburn, AL, Effie Holderman of McKinney, and Ethel Ann Kerestine of Denton; and brother, Martin Luther Hoke, Jr of El Campo.
