Opal Inez McDaniel Merchant, 88 of Lubbock passed away on November 17, 2013 in Lubbock. Inez was born on July 31, 1925 to Carl and Mary Scoggin in Cooke County. She married John Merchant on March 3, 2006 in Haskell, TX. She was married to James J. McDaniel from 1946 until his death in 2005. She worked for over 30 years for the Internal Revenue Service, Small Business Administration, and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.

Inez is survived by her husband John Merchant; sons, James David McDaniel and Donald Jackson McDaniel of Cedar Park, TX; sister, Jaunita Holster of Borger, TX; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Kenneth Scoggin.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and services will be Wednesday November 20, 2013 at Cooper Creek Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Cooper Creek Cemetery.
