IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pat Roberts
Courtney
August 22, 1954 – May 3, 2022
Pat Roberts Courtney, 67, of Denton died peacefully in his home on May 3, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born August 22, 1954 in Denton and is survived by his wife, Regina Addis Courtney, and his three children, Kelly (Ellen) Courtney, Casey Courtney and Lacy Martinho; two step daughters Sarah (Daniel)Parker and Rachel (David) Breeding; seven grandchildren, Kylie and Kaden Courtney, Beckett Martinho, Sage and Henry Breeding, and Tenley and Isla Parker; his brothers Robin (Janet) and Cory (Catherine) Courtney; and several nieces, a nephew, and several cousins. He is the son of the late Mr. Robert Chilton Courtney, Jr. and Mrs. Helen Roberts Courtney.
Pat graduated from Denton High School in 1973 and North Texas State University in 1977 with a degree in Finance. He began his career with First State Bank of Denton and became a fixture in banking and real estate in Denton and the North Texas area where he also worked at Point Bank and Northstar Bank. He took part in Leadership Denton, the Denton Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, and had been president of the Optimist Club.
As a native son of Denton, Pat found joy in his hometown and was very proud to be a Dentonite. He enjoyed judging chili and was a frequent volunteer at church, private, and civic events including the Denton Arts and Jazz Fest, Denton Class of '73 reunion committee, and VOLT (Vision of Light Team), but his favorite was the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo where he served every year since 1979. As a proud Texan, he enthusiastically followed everything associated with Texas history and the Alamo. As a big kid himself, Grand Pat/Uncle Pat was a beloved grandfather and uncle with a prankster's playful soul and infectious laugh. Pat loved telling bad Dad jokes, spending his time in the yard gardening, listening to music, grilling, and having a fire pit, but his greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren and making them laugh. Pat was a cherished friend to all who had the privilege to know him and the embodiment of one of the "good ones": a big, selfless heart, a gentle, caring soul and a loving spirit.
