Obituary

Longtime Denton resident, Patricia "Pat" Heath passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at age 90 after a long and rewarding life.  She leaves behind her eldest daughter Cameron: her son-in-law Billy Barham, her grandson Heath Barham; her granddaughter-in-law Cheyenne and one nephew Ross Withrow.  She was predeceased by her daughter Heather in 1985 and her husband Millard in 2015.

She was born in England, Arkansas on May 20, 1930 to Carl and Nellie Fuqua.  Her mother was a first generation Scottish immigrant and her father was a custom saddle maker by trade.  She was the 2 nd of 3 children with brother Tommy her senior by 3 years and her sister Libby only 15 months younger.  The depression had a direct impact on her father's earning potential.  As a result her family moved many times in which she attended 11 different schools before she graduated. Upon graduation from High School in Henrietta, TX, she attended and graduated from Draughan's Business College.

However, it was with the help of her Sunday School teacher at that time that she got a small scholarship to attend Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX where she worked two jobs to cover her tuition and was an HSU Cowgirl.  She graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and went on to work for one of the oil companies in town.  In May of 1955 she went on a blind date where she met her future husband Millard D. Heath.  They were married in February 1956 in Abilene.  It was in 1969 that they moved to Denton, TX with their two daughters.  Over the years, both in Abilene and later in Denton, Pat pursued and excelled at many interests.  She loved to cook and entertain and took various gourmet cooking classes.  She did needlepoint, cross-stitch and knitting.  She pursued an MBA in textiles and fashion design at TWU working part-time for Les Wilk, the designer in residence, at that time.  She was a member of Ariel Club; served on various Denton Benefit League committees over the years; was a co-founder of the First Night Club which supported the Denton Community Theatre and helped to start the Gaylord-Hughes Scholarship Fund for NTSU theatre students. She loved to travel and learn about other cultures.  She had a passion for reading autobiographies or memoirs of successful people of all nationalities and stories of people that overcame great adversity to succeed.  Her interest in people carried over to every aspect of her life and even in her last years she established friendships of all ages.

The family will be at the Argyle United Methodist Church on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 1-2:00 p.m. for visitation. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
