Obituary

Patricia Noyes-Wheelock passed away on May 11, 2024 in Denton, Texas.

Pat was born Patricia Carol Bamford on July 28, 1944 to Thomas and Carolina Bamford in Panama City, Panama.  They and her older sister, Gloria, lived on the island of Cebu in the Visayas, a province of the Philippines, where she spent her formative years.  Her father, Tom, worked in International Banking which moved the family around the world and developed Pat's love for travel and new experiences.  Eventually, they found their way back to the United States when she was 14 and settled in San Francisco, California.

Pat attended Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, Massachusetts.  Upon graduating, she returned to California and began working as an Executive Assistant in the Financial District in San Francisco.  A few years later, she met Leighton H. Noyes, Jr. (Tony), originally from Brattleboro, Vermont.  After dating for a few years, they were married in San Francisco in 1966.  They soon moved to Colchester, Vermont where they had their two sons, Peter and Michael Noyes.

As a girl growing up, she loved ballet and studied it for many years.  Pat received her training in San Francisco at the school of Master Sergei Temoff, a professional Russian dancer.  Her love of dance brought her to open her first dance school when the family moved to Burlington, Vermont.  Pat was able to balance raising two active boys and a highly successful business.  She and Tony were avid tennis players, something she would continue to enjoy for the rest of her life.

In 1979, the family moved to Coral Springs, Florida.  Pat was back in her element.  The warm, balmy weather brought back fond memories of growing up in the Philippines.  She continued her love for tennis and opened another ballet school during their short stay in Florida.

Soon after, in 1982, the family moved once again, but this time to Branford, Connecticut.  With her boys entering high school, Pat decided to get back into the professional world and accepted a job with a law firm in New Haven, Connecticut.

Once again, the family was on the move to another state in 1985.  This move to Bedford, Texas would be their last move as a family.  Back in the warm climate, Pat was truly happy.  She accepted a job as an Executive Assistant at Prudential-Bache Securities in Fort Worth, Texas.  Pat's continued success promoted her to Executive Assistant to the Regional President in Dallas, Texas, where she eventually retired and began teaching Pilates for two years in Hurst, Texas.  The move to Texas also began her love for Golden Retrievers.  Pat raised 4 of them over the years as her loving companions.

Pat and Tony divorced in 1998.  Several years later, she met Richard Jay Wheelock, Jr. (Jay).  She and Jay married in June 2005 and moved to Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas that same year.  In 2010, Pat finally got her wish to be a grandmother to Brenden Noyes (son of Michael), to which she was bestowed the deeply cherished and long-awaited title of Nana.  She continued her passion for fitness by playing for the Robson Ranch USTA Tennis Team and teaching Pilates there.  Jay passed away in September 2018.

Pat had an incredibly strong connection to her Catholic faith, something she had all her life and it guided and informed her until her final days.  She was very active at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas.  Pat oversaw the bereavement program at her church and provided dedicated pregnancy and parenting support at the Loreto House, two places that meant a lot to her.  Pat had a considerably strong connection to Mother Mary.

Pat is survived by her two sons Peter Noyes and Michael Noyes and sister Gloria O'Shea.  She was the kindest woman you could ever wish to meet, an absolute angel of a human being.  Strong, brilliant and fearlessly protective of the ones she loved.  Pat is and will forever be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 13th beginning at 1:00 PM at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse (9428 Ed Robson Circle, Denton, Texas 76207) in the Bandera Room.
