Patricia L. Ball Thomas Powers, 91, went to her Lord peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018 surrounded in love by her family.
She was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on May 10, 1926 to William Frank Ball and Gooch Sisk Ball. She grew up in Tucumcari, New Mexico where she graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1944 and then attended Colorado Women's College in Denver receiving a degree in Journalism. She married David Stinson Thomas on June 9, 1946 at her parent's home in Tucumcari. Dave and Pat moved to Denton in 1957 with their four children. They were members of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church where Pat enjoyed singing in the choir and other church activities. She was active in several civic organizations including Denton Benefit League, Denton Aerial Club, a founding member of the Greater Denton Arts Council and the Denton Historical Society. Pat was secretary to Dr. Harold Farmer, Director of the Union Building at North Texas State University for many years and then was Administrative Assistant to Dr. Joe Wilkes Berry, Jr. who was the Associate Vice President for Academic and Cultural Affairs at Texas Women's University until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William Edward Ball II, Francis Duff Ball, and her sister, Betty Jeane Ball Zimlich. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years, Dave, who passed away June 5, 1979 and her second husband of 22 years, Sherman J. Powers, who passed away June 30, 2006.
She is survived by her younger brother, Robert Gooch Ball (Elizabeth) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her children, Gary B. Thomas (Gaye) of Denton; Richard W. Thomas (partner Lesa) of San Antonio; Vicki L. Thomas Berg (Earl) of Antioch, California; David S. Thomas Jr. (Kathleen) of Corinth; five cousins, four grandchildren and their spouses, five great-grandchildren, fourteen nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 5-7 PM at DeBerry Funeral Directors
Services will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Per Patricia's request, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
The family would also like to thank Good Samaritan Society-Denton Village and VNA Ann's Haven Hospice for the loving care they gave Patricia during the past months.
