Obituary

Patrick Michael Timlin, 79, of Decatur, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Medical City Denton Hospital. He was born in Roscoe, Pennsylvania to Michael and Etta Timlin on July 29, 1942. He was a Certified Machinist, Engineer, Inventor, and Entrepreneur as well as a devout Catholic, beloved Spouse, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He was an extraordinary man who will be deeply missed by family and friends.

After growing up and attending high school near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he moved to Texas. There he met Carolyn Keyes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were married in that very same church on December 2, 1961. After some time working in Wichita Falls, they moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While working at Menasco Manufacturing in Euless, Texas, he worked to earn his credentials as a Certified Machinist. After Menasco, he worked for General Electric and traveled the country leading a team responsible for repairing large power plant turbines. While in Euless, he and Carolyn welcomed three baby girls: Pam, Kathy, and Christy.

After a few years, Pat decided to pursue his dream of running his own machine shop and opened Timlin Machine Shop in Ponder, Texas. He first earned a loyal following from local farmers and pilots who appreciated his willingness to help and ability to fix anything. His business grew over the years, with his largest client being Trinity Industries in Fort Worth. After a brief closure during the early 1980s recession, his shop reopened as P&C Machine Works Inc. and began to serve some larger clients, notably Peterbilt Motors Company. As demand grew, Carolyn joined the company to help manage and run the shop's office. Peterbilt Motors Company recognized his expertise and began sending more and more work to his shop. During this time he helped design and manufacture a variety of improvements to their production line. One of his most notable achievements was the invention of an automated tire mounting system, for which he owned multiple US patents. His system revolutionized a major bottleneck in semi-truck manufacturing, bringing a previously 15-minute process down to under 30 seconds. His shop operated for many years as an invaluable asset to his clients. After long days at work, he often took time to enjoy a game of cards and a cold beer with his employees. In 1999 his tire-mounting machines and patents were purchased by Alcoa, Inc. Not yet ready to retire, he worked in the shop for several more years until finally retiring in 2005.

While professionally successful, Pat's greatest joy in life was his family. He was always a devout Catholic and family man, spending meaningful time with his kids and eventually grandkids. At family events, he could often be found playing his favorite game of dominoes, 42. Even in retirement he could not sit still. He always had a project he was working on and enjoyed hobbies of tending his land, cutting and bailing his own hay, hunting, and raising cattle. He also enjoyed family trips to his and Carolyn's cabin in Colorado, where he shared his love for the outdoors with his kids, grandchildren, and dogs throughout the years. Pat loved his family dearly, and he and Carolyn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec 2, 2021.

Pat is survived by his wife Carolyn Timlin; his 3 daughters Pam Berend, Kathy and husband Mike Fowler, Christy and husband Rod Jackson; his 8 Grandchildren, Nathan, Garrett and Danielle Berend; Haley Pollard and Abbie Fowler; Reece, Connor and Cole Jackson; his 5 great-grandchildren; his 2 sisters, Veronica Beckwith and Margaret Weld, and 2 brothers, Anthony Timlin and Jerry Timlin; his beloved dog, Sparky.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Etta Timlin; and 2 of his brothers Bill Timlin and Joe Timlin.
