Obituary

Paula Louise Scott passed away on January 23, 2014. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on September 4, 1943 to George and Pauline Scott. She was a registered Cherokee Indian. Paula served as Associate Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Texas Woman's University form 1981-2006, preparing teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing. She was on the faculty at Texas Christian University for five years, prior to moving to Denton. She received her B.A. from Wichita State University, her M.S. from Washington University and her Ed.D. from the University of North Texas.

Paula loved music and sang with the Dallas Women's Chorus in the 1990's. She was an avid sailor and camper. After retiring from Texas Woman's University, she volunteered throughout the Southwest for Heifer International in support of their effort to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. She smiled to the end of her days and will be remembered for her vibrant personality, laughter, service to others and unwavering faith in God.

Paula is survived by cousins Skip Sheffield, Susan Sheffield and Peggy Sheffield of St. Petersburg, Florida, her dogs Kerbey and Sassafras and her partner Mary Ridgway of Denton, Texas. A Celebration of Paula's life will be held by friends and family at a later date. A private interment will be at FUMC Denton Columbarium. If so desired, friends and family ask that donations be made to Heifer International. Special thanks to the caring staff of Autumn Leaves of Denton and Ardent Hospice.
