Obituary

PHIL B. SANTOGROSSI

Wonderful Husband, Companion, Dad, Grandad, Brother, Friend.
Phil passed through the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, with his family at his side. He began his journey on September 14, 1940 in Springfield, Illinois, born to parents Gea and Mary Theresa Santogrossi. It was there in Springfield that he met the love of his life, Phyllis, and they married ten months later on September 17, 1966. They had two beautiful daughters, Christy and Jennifer.

Phil had a long and distinguished career with Illinois Bell Telephone, and then moved to Texas with his family to continue his career with AT&T, retiring in 1989. But he was restless and so he started his second career with several managed health care companies, jokingly saying one job lasted until Noon.

He had a passion for fast cars, racing them in his younger years. He restored a '23 T-Bucket Ford Roadster from a heap of metal and was proud of his accomplishment. His other love was walking and relaxing on a beach---any beach. He and Phyllis spent most of their vacations on the beaches of several Caribbean islands, South Padre Island and two anniversary trips to Australia.

Phil leaves behind Phyllis, his wife of 47 years, along with daughter Christy Burgess, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jim Dumser and grandchildren Cameron, Caroline, Christa and Claire and his two dogs Sadie and Sam. He is also survived by his two sisters, Rita Ryan and Kathleen Morgan, and their husbands, Pat and Art, his two sisters-in-law Gloria Mueller and Barbara Barron, as well as a host of cousins and friends.

Phil's hilarious wit shined through every night when he'd say "kiss me quick, nothin' makes me sick!" That phrase was constant until the end of his days.

The family extends their thanks to his compassionate hospice caregivers, who made Phil's last days quiet and comfortable.

A remembrance service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 West University, Denton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Denton County Humane Society or any animal shelter of choice in Phil's name.
