Argyle, Texas

Phyllis Mary Hattenbach Labbe, of Argyle, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. She was born on May 31, 1953, in Ganado, Texas, to Douglas Hattenbach and Anna (Yendry) Hattenbach.

Phyllis spent her early childhood in Ganado until the family moved to Big Spring, where she attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School through her junior high years. She later continued her education at Big Spring High School, proudly graduating with the Class of 1971. Following high school, she attended Howard County College, beginning a path defined by dedication, service, and hard work.

Phyllis began her professional career with the Howard County Tax Office, where she served the public with kindness and integrity. Through years of commitment and meticulous work, she rose to the position of Chief Deputy Clerk, a role in which she was highly respected by colleagues and community members alike.

On July 5, 1994, Phyllis married Adolph Labbe, with whom she shared many years of love and companionship. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Adolph, and by her parents, Douglas and Anna Hattenbach.

Phyllis is survived by her sister, Libby Swartz of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Raymond Hattenbach (Linda) of Morgan’s Point, Texas; Lonnie Hattenbach of Albuquerque, New Mexico; James Hattenbach (Debbie) of Midland, Texas; Kevin Hattenbach (Jennifer) of Denton, Texas; and Marcus Hattenbach of Houston, Texas, and her stepchildren Kim, Dolph, and Teresa Labbe. She also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephew—Tanya Clifton, Lindsey Gooding, Lauren Swartz, and Dustin Hattenbach—along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Phyllis had a tender heart for animals, especially cats. She lovingly cared for her own pets and was known for taking in neighborhood strays, ensuring each one felt safe and loved. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the SPCA, honoring Phyllis’s faith and her lifelong compassion for animals.
