Obituary

Elmo Ramsey Reasoner was born November 30, 1941 in Houston, Texas.

As a child, little Elmo had four much older brothers.  He moved often, as his father was in the service, and lived in Houston, Japan, Colorado Springs, and, eventually, found his roots in Kansas City.  Also called "Junior", he loved to sit and read the encyclopedia, and fell in love with the St. Louis Cardinals as he listened to the games on the radio.

He attended Central High School in Kansas City, Mo. where he was the captain of the Football and Track teams, the art editor of the yearbook, and, at the age of only 16, had a try-out with the Kansas City A's baseball team, but, sadly, he "couldn't hit the curve ball".

He attended the University of Kansas and University of Missouri where he studied Architecture. Around this time, he was given the nickname of Butch and learned to play the guitar and did those Jim Croce songs proud.  He worked as an architect/designer for Niemackel Harriman.

He met his beloved wife Bette while they served in the Kansas City Jaycees where he was president. They wed on May 29, 1976 and moved to Corpus Christi to join his father-in-law in starting a new home building business, Trinity Developers. It was at this time his name changed one last time and he began using his middle name, Ramsey.  This marked a new direction in his relationship with the Lord, as well.  Ramsey also worked for Holder Construction in Austin as a designer.

Ramsey and Bette have always been strongly committed to their church and worked many years in ministry; teaching and doing marital counseling.  Ramsey was a part of the musical group, Sarah's Song, which helped raise awareness and support for Sarah's House ministry, although he really needed more solos.  They moved to Denton a few years ago and became a part of New Life Church where they enjoyed being with close friends in small group and Bible study, and closer to a few of their grandkids.

As Ramsey slipped away to be with the Lord, there were several things he had close at hand that would tell you much about him. There were CD's of worship music, his Bible, C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity, his precious and spoiled dog Rosie (who could do no wrong), but, most of all, his beloved wife, Bette.

He was known for his sharp wit and his warm heart, his love of baseball and the Word, and passionate, tearful prayer.  He had a beautiful singing voice, a fantastic eye for design, drew wonderful pen and ink cartoons and landscapes, loved really old movies, peanut patties, and, inexplicably, only vanilla ice cream
He passed peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021.
