Obituary

Remo "Ray" Mastrogiacomo passed away on December 6, 2023, at his home in Denton. He was born in Endicott, New York on December 1, 1931, to Giuseppe and Josephine Mastrogiacomo.

Ray's career in the military began in 1948, lying about his age to get in the New York State Guard, and transferring to the regular army when he turned 18. His service took him to Japan during the Occupation following WWII, and to fighting in the Korean War. Military Police duty and Criminal Investigation Division assignments took him back to the far east- Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and into Vietnam during that War. His final assignments were in Washington, DC and Dallas. He retired from the army in 1974 with a chest full of medals, all of which he chose to be buried with. His proudest medal was the Combat Infantryman Badge. Not only was he faithful in his service to his country, but also to the Lord. He loved participating in worship as lay reader and to carry the cross during services.

Following military retirement, he worked as Deputy Chief of Security with the Dallas Hospital District for a few years. He and Cynthia were married in 1985. During retirement, he still loved military things. He restored several WWII military vehicles and enjoyed driving them in 4th of July and Veterans Day parades. He never met a stranger and loved to share his stories. He was a loving, faithful husband, family man and friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Benedetta Niesel, John Mastrogiacomo, Mario Mastrogiacomo and his sister in law, Frances Mastrogiacomo.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Mastrogiacomo, daughter, Donna Garland, and her husband, David, of Denton, Tx., son, Dan Cutter of Florida, granddaughter, Genevieve Gabriel, grandson, Elliot Garland, and his wife, Lea, sister-in-law, Glenda Mastrogiacomo, and many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
