Retha Whittle of Denton, Texas passed away January 9, 2021. She was born March 8, 1934 in McLoud, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ted and Georgia (Ross) Reust. Retha met Jim at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. They celebrated their marriage in 1962 at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City.
Retha was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and was presented the Honor of Epsilon Pi. She served as Chapter Advisor on campuses in Ada, Oklahoma and Denton, Texas. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Retha retired from the Synod of the Sun, Presbyterian Church (USA) after twenty-three years of service. She is a Lifetime Member of the Administrative Personnel Association, Certified as a Fellow in Church Administration. After retirement she was a tireless and selfless volunteer at Texas Health Resources Denton Hospital for over 16 years. She enjoyed her many volunteer years and received the Helping Hands-Caring Hearts Award, Volunteer of the Year Award, and United States President's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Family was most important in her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, always involved and making special time for her children's educational and social activities. She was a licensed Private Pilot and enjoyed flying vacations and visiting distant family with her family. Retha is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, Jim; sons Michael Terry and wife, Wendy, of Skiatook, Oklahoma; Mark Alan and wife, Melanie, of Decatur, Texas; daughter Vicki Lyn and husband, Bret Winters, of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren Sean, Tracey, April, Taylor, Remington and Triston; great grandchildren Louden, Will, Layne, Lakelee, Adelynn and Travis; brother Leland and wife, Jane, of Diamondhead, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death was her sister, Louise, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
A celebration of life will be held in the chapel at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, Denton, Texas, Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 10:30 officiated by The Reverend Tom Merritt followed by interment at the Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery.
