Richard Arlen Baria, 88, of Denton passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 30, 1929 in South Charleston, West Virginia to Frank and Adeline Baria. He was married to Jo An Jacobson in Ashland, Kentucky and they lived in West Virginia, Lousiana and Texas while he was in the military. Richard attended Moriss Harvey University prior to receiving a commission in the Air Force. Richard served as a Captain in the Air Force, in the Air National Guard and is a Veteran of Foreign Wars. He spent his post military career as a commercial pilot for Braniff Airlines in Dallas and Nashville and retired in 1989.
Richard and Jo An purchased and restored the Bayless-Selby-Baria home which housed the family antique business and their son's families over the years. The home now serves as a Denton County Museum. Richard enjoyed working on his land, building homes, restoring furniture and loving and teasing his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Arlen Baria, Jr. (Diana) and David (Jo Ann), ten grandchildren—Kathryn, Jennifer, Sam, Rebecca, Daniel, Liz, Victoria, Benjamin, Michelle and Gabriel, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mona Leach (West Virginia). He was proceeded in death by his wife of 65 years, parents, and brothers.
Funeral services for Richard are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 2, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Teasley Ln. in Denton. Interment will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
