Obituary

Our Beloved Richard went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 28, 2013. Richard Doyle Lawson was born in Pampa, Texas on December 1, 1946 to Mr. Bonham C. Lawson and wife, Evelyn Haney Lawson.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Bonham C. Lawson; his mother, Evelyn Haney Lawson-Pockrus; his step-father, Raymond D. "Tucker" Pockrus, and wife, Mary Jo. Kubala-Lawson.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Armstrong Lawson of Maysville, Oklahoma; daughter, Dawn Goyne of Lindsey, Oklahoma; daughter Dwan Carr and husband, Ben of Mountain View, Wyoming; daughter D'Lana Albright, and husband, Steve of Purcell, Oklahoma; step-daughter Terissa Crisp of Denton, Texas; step-daughter Marilyn Maxey, and husband, Wendell of Midland, Texas; Grandchildren: Katy Davis, Shelby Selzer, Clair Selzer, Kendall Carr, Race Carr, Logan Carr, McKinnley Albright, and Nicholas Albright; sister Vicky Lawson-Justus, and husband, Jerry of Elk City, Oklahoma. Niece Tammy Garrett and husband Donnie, Tisha Hust and husband Charles, and nephew, Jeff Justus and wife Toni all of Elk City, OK. Richard also had numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Richard grew up in Denton, Texas and attended Denton High School. He served in the National Guard for six years. In 1966 he married Mary Jo Kubala and they had three daughters.

In 1990 he married Linda Armstrong-Crisp. They shared 23 years of marriage together. Richard loved the outdoors, including camping, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed spending time with all kinds of animals. He had a passion for rodeo and participated in saddle bronc riding and bareback riding. He won numerous awards during his rodeo career. He also had a love for drag racing. Richard was especially proud of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them whenever possible.

Richard served as a Dallas, Texas police officer for several years. He also worked for the City of Denton as a Lineman. He then worked for Otis Engineering traveling to numerous states all over the country. He returned to Denton and worked for the Denton State School for many years and then he moved to Oklahoma to become the owner/operator of his own trucking company for 10 years before retiring in 2007.

Visitation will be held from 7—8 pm on Friday, December 6, 2013, at the DeBerry Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 am in the DeBerry Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 7, 2013 with burial following at Bolivar Cemetery in Bolivar, Texas. Pallbearers include Wendell Maxey, Ben Carr, Garrett Davis, Martin Lowrie, Kenny Lowrie, and David Klein. Brad Lowrie officiating.
