Richard Marshall Selby, 76, of Trophy Club, Texas, passed away with his loved ones by his side on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

Richard was born on July 9, 1947, to George and Velma (Smith) Selby in Denton, Texas. He played trombone in the band at Denton High School and graduated in 1965. He attended Texas Christian University where he was also a member of the band. He left TCU to serve his country in the United States Air Force which included one tour to Vietnam as a Propeller Mechanic. After his deployment, he returned to TCU to graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1974, and went on to work at Fort Worth National Bank in data processing. He later joined his father in the family business, Selby Greenhouses, Inc., for the rest of his career until he retired.

Richard married Karen Tomlinson on November 2, 1979, in his parents' home in Denton. Together they had one daughter, Meredith.

Richard continued to play the trombone in the Denton Community Band and with the orchestra for community musicals. He was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church of Denton. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, playing or watching golf, and rooting for his beloved Horned Frogs and Texas Rangers.

Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen, his daughter Meredith Staffel and her husband Justin of Trophy Club, Texas, his sister Susan Buehner and her husband Mike of Louisville, Kentucky, a niece Allison Buehner Lemons of Charlotte, North Carolina, two grandchildren, two great nieces, and many loyal friends and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Velma Selby.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Denton Women's Club on Friday, January 26, 2024. We will welcome guests starting at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will have a private graveside burial to follow.
