IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Harrell
Hankins
October 7, 1938 – September 18, 2021
Robert (Bob) Harrell Hankins, 82, of Denton, Tx. Passed away on September 18, 2021.
He was born on October 7, 1938, in Olney, Tx. to Doyle and Frances Hankins. He lived there until the age of six when his family moved to Artesia, New Mexico, a town his whole family loved. It was there he learned to love the game of golf, having been taken to the course by his father. His family moved back to West Texas where he graduated from Lamesa High School. There he met many friends who stayed connected with him throughout his life.
Bob attended the University of Texas where he majored in accounting and played on the golf team coached by the legendary Harvey Penick. After graduation he took a job with the firm of Haskins and Sells in Scottsdale, Arizona. While working there he studied for the CPA exam and served in the Air National Guard.
He desired to return to Texas and was transferred to Dallas where he passed the CPA exam and met the love of his life, Suzanne in 1964. They married in 1965 and shortly thereafter moved to Denton. There he partnered with Bud Heimer in his accounting firm. After many years servicing Denton, the firm became what is now Hankins, Eastup, Deaton, Tonn, and Seay. He practiced there for more than 40 years before retiring to concentrate solely on golf.
Over the years he served as treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary club, and President of the Denton Country Club. He was on the advisory committee of the UNT Accounting Department, Board of Directors of First State Bank, and a Deacon and Elder at St. Andrew Presbyterian church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred Hankins, and brother Larry Hankins.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, son Daniel Hankins of Denton, Tx; daughter Mindy Odgren of Evergreen, Co; daughter Melisa Hankins of McKinney, Tx; adorable granddaughters Molly and Abby of Evergreen Co; brother Tim Hankins, sister in laws Sally Hankins and Patricia Knudsen, and brother-in-law Tom St. Aubin and his wife Connie of Strawberry Plains, Tn.
