Obituary

Robert (Bob) W. Korba, 71, passed away on March 10, 2015. He was blessed to have passed peacefully while surrounded by his family. Bob was born on Oct. 15, 1943 in East St. Louis, Ill. He graduated from Griffin High School in Springfield, Ill. and continued his education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb. where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate. Bob was married to Jane Whalen Korba on Dec. 28, 1968 and they were married 46 wonderful years.

The funeral service will be held on March 18, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas. Father Tim Thompson of Immaculate Conception will be celebrating the funeral Mass. A reception will follow the service at the Denton Country Club in Argyle, Texas.

Bob is the former CEO of Sammons Enterprises, a position he held from 1988 to 2009, and continued to serve Sammons as Chairman from 2009 to 2011. Bob spent more than 35 years devoted to Sammons, beginning his career as legal counsel, and acted as General Counsel for 5 years prior to becoming CEO. Bob served three years in the U.S. Army serving as 1st Lt. in military intelligence.

Bob held numerous civic and business positions. He held several positions as Chairman including Chairman of Sammons Enterprises, Verus Real Estate, LLC, Y Street Ventures, LLC, and Luxe Home, LLC. He was the Director of Guggenheim Capital, LLC and E2M Holdings. Bob was a member of the Dallas Citizens Council. He served on the Executive Committee of the University of Nebraska College Law Alumni Council; the Dallas County Community College District Foundation; and the UT Southwestern Medical Foundation. Bob was awarded the University Of Nebraska College Of Law Distinguished Alumnus in 2010 and the UT Southwestern Charles Cameron Sprague Community Service Award in 2011.

He always considered his greatest accomplishment in life to be his wife, three children and four grandchildren. Bob loved people, and while he achieved great success, he never lost his humility or humanity. He was blessed to have lived a full and rich life.

Bob is survived by his wife Jane, his children Lisa, Bryan, Jennifer, her husband Jeff and grandchildren Charlotte, Liam, Clara and Cole, his sister Rosemary Shashoua of Dallas, and his brother James Korba of Lamar, Ark. Bob also leaves behind many beloved friends and colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the American Heart Association.
