Obituary

Robert Nicholas McWilliams, born on October 21, 1941, in Glendale, California, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Denton, Texas. He was a beloved husband , grandfather and great grandfather, cherished friend, and respected member of the community.

Robert dedicated a significant part of his life to serving in the U.S. Navy, where he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. His commitment to his country was a source of pride that defined much of his character and values throughout his life. He and his father were so proud when Bob became an Eagle Scout in his teens. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he joined the Los Angeles County Sheriffs’ Department raising to the rank of Lieutenant, while graduating from USC with a Doctorate in Public Administration. Bob, as an Associate Professor taught at the U of Indiana, Valpariso campus before he worked at the Naval Installation at China Lake, CA and for the Department of Defense in Washington D. C. until 2002 when he retired.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth McWilliams, and his brother David. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Zeider McWilliams, Marilyn’s son Tony King, spouse Maricel King and grandchild Ryan, Bob and Patricia Giffard’s daughter Tracy Lynn Lyons, spouse Jim Lyons, and grandchildren Yvette spouse Rick Wilson, Jimmy, spouse Jessica Lyons, and Brandon, and spouse Rose Lyons, Great Grandchildren Chantel, Aqua, Jade, Jackson and Justin. Bob and Elizabeth Mayes Daughters Rachel Leah Kirkland, spouse James Kirkland, and grandchildren Jimmy and Jacob. Daughter Rebekah Naomi Beisner (deceased), spouse Jamie Beisner and grandchildren, Christine, Kayden, and Sarah.

In honor of Robert’s life, a memorial service will be held on March 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, located at 2025 W University Dr, Denton, TX 76201. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Robert’s kindness and spirit are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who impacted the lives of many.

Robert Nicholas McWilliams will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for his unwavering spirit and the love and kindness he brought into the world.
