Obituary

Robert Arthur Reynolds was born on December 23, 1937 to Milton Crockett Reynolds and Vera Gladys Reynolds (née Wiederbusch), in Dallas, Texas. As the youngest of four, he grew up learning from his older siblings under their loving, if sometimes mischievous, teaching. After graduating from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, in 1956, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as an airman and petty officer, working on flight simulators at the naval base in Monterrey, California. Robert always felt that his time in the Navy gave him a sense of purpose and discipline. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1962, Robert enrolled in the University of Texas in Arlington, where he achieved his Bachelors of Science in Electronics Engineering. Upon graduation, he began working for Honeywell as an engineer.

Working for Honeywell, Robert moved away from Dallas for the second time in his life to work in Riviera Beach, Florida, a decision he never regretted as it was here that he met the love of his life, Bonita Louise Anthony. After their first date in October of 1964, they were engaged in December and married in West Palm Beach, Florida on February 26, 1965. Shortly after, Robert took a position with Texas Instruments and moved back to Dallas with his new bride.

in December, 1969, Robert and Louise were blessed to welcome their son, Kevin Jerome, into their hearts and home, followed by their daughter, Shanna Marie, in June, 1973.  He loved his children fiercely and was immensely proud of the beautiful family they built together. Robert and Louise poured their love and their lives into their adopted children, never shying away from being honest with them about their adoption, nor concerned with not having children related by blood. Robert took on the role of soccer coach, Indian Guide chief, father-daughter camper, band dad, choir director, and countless other, often thankless, roles. After their children had grown, Robert and Louise fostered many different children and volunteered with a child advocacy group to help children find temporary or permanent homes.

In addition to his wife and children, Robert loved family, faith, and music. He always enjoyed getting together with his parents and siblings and their children, as well as with his in-laws. No matter where life might take him, Robert sought out a church to get involved in and participated in ministering within the church in some way - as an usher, Sunday school teacher, or in the choir, handbell choir, or interim choir director. Music was always an important part of Robert's life, whether playing clarinet in band in high school, singing in a barbershop quartet, singing Karaoke with his wife, or dancing with his wife or even by himself. Even as the years dimmed in his life, Robert never lost his love for family, faith, or music.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Roy Eugene and Marvin Charles and sister Doris May Varner. He is survived by his wife and children, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held for Robert at DeBerry Funeral Home at 2025 West University Drive in Denton, Texas 76201, at 2 PM on Friday, October 23, 2026.
