Obituary

Robert "Bob" Shelton, Jr., 80, of Denton, Texas went to be with his Lord on February 7, 2021. He was born to Robert Bonner Shelton, Sr. and Jewel Allen Shelton in Texarkana, Arkansas on June 2, 1940.

Bob and his siblings Shirley Shelton Butler, Kenny Shelton and Beverly Patton Ruff started life in San Diego at the start of World War 2 where their uncle was stationed on the Arizona. Never one to waste time, Bob skipped two grades, then graduated from Weatherford High School after the family moved to Texas. Bob attended basic training for the United States Air Force in San Antonio in December of 1957, and he was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, Newfoundland, Red Bluff, California, and Pyote, Texas.

During his time in California, he married Barbara June McGee on August 20, 1960. They had two children, Bradley in 1961 and Stacy in 1963. The family lived in Marshall, Texas then Slidell, Louisiana, where his entrepreneurial spirit led to what would later become Shelton Development.  Later the family moved again to Miami, Oklahoma where Bob wore many hats as a pipe and supply company regional manager, a blooming developer, a family man, and even a Little League coach. While in Miami, Bob obtained his private pilot's license, another skill to add to the repertoire of an already talented man. In 1971, the Sheltons firmly implanted themselves in Denton County, moving to Bartonville, Texas where Shelton Development came into its own. With his company, Bob had many successes over the years, including the sale and development of D.R. Horton's first community in Arlington.

Bob married JoAnn McCall Shelton on October 3, 1998 in Denton, Texas, and some of his most memorable times were focused around his family. Bob's true passions came to fruition in 2000 when he and JoAnn purchased their ranch in Loco, Oklahoma where the family was able to spend quality time together. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, showing his support at choir concerts, baseball games, and Nutcracker performances. He was a skilled rancher, a Christmas card expert, and the World's Greatest Thanksgiving Turkey Carver.

Bob is survived by his wife of 22 years, JoAnn of Denton; his two children - Brad and wife Elise Shelton, and Stacy and husband Steve Gee; sisters Shirley Shelton Butler and Beverly Patton Ruff; five grandchildren - Shannon and husband David Toland, Stewart and wife Katie Gee, Amanda Shelton and husband Austin Shirley, Scott and wife Hannah Gee, and Alexandra Shelton; and ten great-grandchildren.
