Obituary

Robert Ray Smith, 78, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 7, 1948, in Humboldt, Tennessee and raised in Buffalo, New York.

Robert was the son of the late Welton F Smith and Virginia B Seaton, and he was preceded in his death by his brother, James. His life was a testament to the values instilled in him by his parents – integrity, kindness, and commitment to family.

Robert graduated from South Park High School, Buffalo, New York in June 1966. His sense of duty led him to serve honorably in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 – a period during which he developed lifelong friendships and an enduring sense of camaraderie.

On May 3, 1980, Robert married Christine Ann Dansereau in a beautiful ceremony in Buffalo, New York. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning an incredible 46 years.

Robert is survived by his brother Welton Eugene (Christine), his children Derrick (Amy), Jennifer (Jason) and Nathan Abato (Legia), grandchildren Dillon, Sierra, Joshua, Jaydon, Jayla, Haydon, Milan, and great-grandson Evren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who remember him fondly.

Professionally, Robert was a master locksmith plying his trade in Buffalo, New York, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Dallas, Texas until his retirement in 2016. His work was marked by integrity and a commitment to excellence, earning respect, and admiration from colleagues and clients.

Robert’s passion for life extended beyond work. He was an avid golfer, cherishing his weekly games with his brother-in-law, Donald Dansereau. His love for nature was evident in the joy of hiking and gardening. Robert found peace and fulfillment in the beauty of the natural world, a love he passed on to his family.

A service will be held to honor Robert's memory on 6/20/2026 at 10:00 AM at Thousand Hills Church, 8380 S Stemmons Fwy, Hickory Creek, TX 75065 and will be available via a live feed.
