Robert "Bob" Sullivan, 73, of Denton, Texas passed away on April 27, 2018 in Denton. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Elmer Dudley Sullivan and Jo Crittenden Bennett on September 14, 1944.
He met his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Dise, while she was attending Plano University and he was attending NTU and working as a short order cook. The two were married on August 21, 1971, and later had a son, Sean. He was a caring and attentive husband and never left Ginny's side when she developed Cancer. Bob was a gentle giant with a very kind heart, who was always ready to help others.
Bob served in the US Army during Vietnam and later retired from the National Guard as a Sargent. He worked at the Denton State School where he was a Master Plumber, followed by employment with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). He retired from DART after 15 years, where he was affectionally called "Safety Bob." While at DART, Bob became a Global Safety Officer and conducted safety trainings at institutions across the country.
Bob was a member of the Krum Masonic Lodge #1453 where he was a Master Mason. At the time of his death, Bob had been a Mason for more than 23 years and had held several offices in the Krum Masonic Lodge.
His passion outside of work was cooking chili. Bob participated in National cookoffs including yearly participation in the Terlingua Chili Championship, where he won a number of awards.
He is survived by his son, Sean Sullivan, Sister, Patricia (John) Case of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Brother-in-Law, Mikol Dise, of Cayman Islands. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dise Sullivan, and by his parents Jo C. Bennett and Elmer D. Sullivan.
Graveside services and internment will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Dallas / Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas with full military honors. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Bob's life at Johnny Carino's, 1516 Centre Place Drive, Denton Texas from 3:00pm to 6:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory can be sent to the Masonic Lodge #1453, Krum, Texas.
Messages of condolence for the family can be sent to Sean Sullivan, 3403 Oriole Lane, Denton, Texas 76201.
The family would like to thank the Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their loving care of Bob while he was with them, as well as the DeBerry Funeral Directors for their help in making all the arrangements.
