Robert Holman Summers, Sr., age 96 of San Antonio, Texas (formally of Denton, Texas) passed away on April 10, 2021, after a short illness.

Robert was born on May 23, 1924 in Rosebud, Texas to Robert Henry and Ruth Freeman Summers. He attended Rosebud Schools until he graduated in 1942.

After graduation, he attended The University of Texas in Austin on a basketball scholarship as one of the starting players. After graduating from UT, in 1949, he married Jeanne McCoy of Denton, Texas and then moved to Crockett, Texas where Robert took a job as a football and basketball coach at Crockett High School. IN 1953, he received his master's degree at Sam Houston University and went on to be principal of Crockett Elementary School. In 1959, he went to work for D.C. Heath Publishing Company and remained with them for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jeanne McCoy Summers; his parents, Robert and Ruth Summers; his brothers, Jack and Fleming Summers; and Wanda Sheppard, who he married in 2002.

He is survived by his son, Bob Summers (Pam), daughter, Sue Gabourie (Jack); grandchildren Shelby Givens (Robby); Taylor Stephens (Derek); Tyler Summers (Keeli); and Scott Ball (Shannon); great grandchildren, Reid Givens; Rowan and Crew Stephens; Kane and Jace Summers; and Ira June Ball and two step-children, Joanna Heflin (Michael); Kaye Ricco (Ralph). Step grandchildren include Jessica and James Heflin, and Lauryn Ricco. He is also survived by his sister, Annie Ruth Glass, 3 nephews and their children.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on June 1, 2021 at in the Chapel of Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors with Al Camp, Clint Blackman and Lloyd Campbell officiating. The family requests that all attendees wear a mask.
