Roger D. Williams was born October 2, 1947 in California, and passed on Monday, February 12, 2024 in Denton, Texas.

His death is preceded by his mother and his brother.

Growing up in Colorado, Roger graduated from Adams City High School, then joined the Army in February 1966, where he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Tx. Roger had toured all over the world, including two tours in Vietnam and three tours in Germany. He retired as a staff sergeant. He was part of the 173rd Airborne and was very proud. He would serve his country for 20 years before retiring in 1986, and would go onto the University of El Paso and New Mexico University to become a teacher where he taught at Andress High School in El Paso, Tx. After moving to Denton, Texas in 1995, he would go on to teach at Denton High School until his retirement in 2013. One of his favorite pastimes was golf after teaching himself to play at Fort Bliss. His passion for golf never left him, coaching golf at Denton H.S.

Roger was a hard worker as a father and grandfather. He worked tirelessly so that his children didn't have to have the same upbringing that he and his siblings had. He is normally described as a gruff man until you get to know him, he always did his best to take care of those that he loved.

Roger was survived by, his wife, Linda Williams. Siblings: Edward Williams and wife Juanita, Sheila Groves, and Deborah Knopp and husband Bill. Children: Dense Gritton and husband Orbery, Penny King and husband Brian, Crystal Williams, and James Williams. Grandchildren: Cody Williams, Colton Williams, Abby Gallegos, Landon Williams, Kameon Wall, Zephyr Williams, Zinnia Williams, Ariel Mills and husband Cory, Cole Gribbins and wife Mahaley, Erin Gribbins, Jake Gribbins and wife Joy, Alyssa Hilderbrand, Jason Belmont and wife Georgia, Chase Gallegos, and Charlie Williams. He had 13 great-children. Step-children: Terry Phifer and wife Hina, Larry Phifer and wife Vicki. Step-grandchildren and great grandchildren: Christian Gritton and wife Caity, Summer Cotton and husband Zach, Rachel Phifer and husband Erik, Ashley Phifer, Liam Phifer, Olivia Phifer, and Tyler Goodrich and wife Courtney.

Roger's memorial will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors on February 16, 2024 at 3:00 PM.
