Obituary

Roman John Stachowiak , age 84, of Krum, Texas, was called home to Our Lord on June 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 11, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, Roman was the eldest of three sons of William Roman and Verna Zajac Stachowiak. He cherished his childhood on the family farm and often recalled fond memories—especially catching chickens and playing on the wraparound porch.

He graduated cum laude from St. Mary's University in San Antonio with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance. He went on to earn his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation, marking the start of a long and successful career in finance and insurance.

Roman married the love of his life, Alice Marie Daly, on January 30, 1965, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in San Antonio. They made their home there as members of St. Matthew Catholic Church where Roman joined the Knights of Columbus. In 1975, they moved to Mesquite, Texas where Roman was active in the community and St. Pius X Catholic Church and School, serving as a parent volunteer, soccer coach, lector, and chairman of the parish finance committee.

Roman and Alice later settled in Krum, where they became devoted members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton. Over the past 24 years, Roman continued to stay involved with the Monsignor Charles King Council #4771 of the Knights of Columbus.

He will be remembered dearly for his deep faith - especially his devotion to St. Joseph - his love of family, beaming smile, and goofy sense of humor. He enjoyed a wide variety of music, listening to Texas thunderstorms, and watching the windmill spin in his backyard. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he attended as many performances, events, and games as he could. At the top of Roman's list of favorite foods was Whataburger.

A Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following, Roman will be laid to rest in the church columbarium. All are welcome to join the family for lunch at the KC Hall, 1700 Riney Road in Denton.

Roman is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Alice Marie; his children, Chalese Connors (husband Alexander) of Denton, Texas; Karen Bernsen (husband Jeff) of West, Texas; Andrew Stachowiak (wife Diana) of The Woodlands, Texas; and Lianne Jones (husband Dan) of Green Bay, WI; along with 12 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his brothers, Ted of Bryan, Texas, and Ray of Converse, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Joseph, and his grandson Zakk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Daily Bread in Denton, or Knights of Columbus Charities .

"For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance." - 2 Timothy 4:6-8
