Reverend Robert Roy Baines Jr., 71, of Denton passed away, after a lengthy illness, on Sunday, May 25, 2014 in Denton, Texas. Roy was born on June 18, 1942 to Constance and Robert Roy Baines Sr. in San Antonio, Texas. Roy married Gerry Weatherford on February 5, 1972 in San Antonio, Texas.
Roy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from The University of Texas, Perkins School of Theology at SMU and attended a fellowship of post graduate studies at Oxford University, Oxford, England.
He served 47 years in Parish Ministry in the Southwest Texas Methodist Conference, Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. He was a member of the Edinburg, Texas and Denton, Texas Kiwanis Clubs, and a past President of the Denton Noon-Kiwanis. He was an avid Model Railroader and a member and past President of the Denton Model Railroad Club.
Roy is survived by his wife, Gerry Baines; daughter, Elise O'Connell and husband Scott; son, Robert Baines; grandchildren Mercer and Reid O'Connell and Aidan Baines; brothers, John Baines and wife Diane and Van Baines.
A gathering with the family will be Friday, May 30, 2014 at 7:00 pm at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 2:30pm at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church 623 Ector St. Denton, Texas 76201.
Memorials may be given to St. David of Wales Episcopal Church, Denton Kiwanis Children's Clinic, or a charity of your choice.
