Roy Don Nance, born on February 1, 1958, in Sherman, Texas to Donald and Betha (Miller) Nance, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, in Denton, Texas. Roy’s life was one marked by love, dedication, and a profound sense of adventure, touching countless lives along his journey.

Roy grew up in Texas and graduated from Denton High School in 1977, already showing early signs of the curiosity and determination that would distinguish his later pursuits. After high school, Roy worked with Mostek, where he met Barbara. Upon leaving Mostek, he worked in the printing industry and subsequently built a successful career at the University of North Texas, where he served with distinction and dedication for 20 years before retiring. The relationships formed during his years at UNT, both professional and personal, remained a treasured part of his life.

A true renaissance man, Roy’s passions were as varied as they were deep. His adventurous spirit flourished in his years embracing the thrill of going fast around the race track in his Formula V and sharing his musical talent as a skilled drummer, performing at many gigs. Roy’s eye for beauty extended into his work as a professional photographer, while his creativity also found expression through woodworking and his enduring fascination with aquariums. He was a man of many interests, dedicated to each endeavor and always eager to learn more.

Music played a constant and important role in Roy's life. He loved listening to a wide array of genres, and his appreciation for good music was matched only by his enjoyment of a fine cigar. As a proud member of the Denton Independent Cigar Knowledge Society (fondly referred to as DICKS), Roy forged lasting friendships and shared countless moments of camaraderie. His social connections extended into every realm of his life, with many of his closest friends originating from his years at UNT.

Among Roy’s proudest accomplishments was his devoted, 41-year marriage to the love of his life, Barbara. Their union was a testament to true partnership, marked by mutual respect, joy, and unwavering support. Together, Roy and Barbara were avid animal lovers; their home was made richer by the many animals they adopted from various rescues, reflecting their deep compassion and care for all creatures.

Roy fiercely loved his family, cherishing every opportunity to gather, celebrate, or just be present together. Those who survive Roy remember him for his warmth, playful humor, and the strength of his commitments. He leaves behind his beloved wife Barbara, his brother Mickey and his wife Beth, cherished nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law Michel' Sutton, and extended family. Roy was preceded in death by his loving mother and father, Donald and Betha Nance.

Roy’s legacy is not only preserved in the achievements and adventures that filled his days, but in the memories and love shared with all who knew him. His life reminds us of the value of passion, the importance of loyalty, and the beauty of an open, generous heart.

Roy will be deeply missed, and remembered always, by those fortunate enough to have called him family or friend.
