Obituary

Ruby Kerner passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021, to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, son, and other friends, and family members.

She was a lifelong resident of Denton and Denton County. She was born in Argyle, Texas on May 11, 1929, to Oscar Pearson and Elsie Hampton Pearson. She was the granddaughter of early Argyle settlers, Tom Hampton, and Sarah (Sallie) Wood Hampton.

Her family moved from Argyle to Denton when she was 6 years old. She has lived in Denton since that time, attending Robert E. Lee Elementary and Denton High School. She graduated in 1946. She attended Texas Woman's University (previously Texas State College for Women.

Ruby was married to Melvin Kerner on February 19, 1949. They were married 48 years at the time of his death on May 28, 1997. She is also preceded in death by her oldest son, Larry Kerner, in 2014. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Mildred Cockrell, and Dorothy Archer, brothers Newt, Vernon, Monroe, Wayne, and Alonzo Pearson. Her three nephews, Donald, George, and Michael Cockrell also preceded her in death, as well as her parents and other nephews.

During her lifetime, she was in banking for over 30 years, beginning with First State Bank downtown. She joined US Bank in 1963. She retired in 1991 as Vice- President in the Trust Department. Ruby served in all departments of the bank and still treasured her many friends made during this time.

She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women and various business clubs. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Ruby is survived by her son, Tommy Kerner and wife Christy of Sanger, and daughter-in-law Donna Kerner of Denton. The other loves of her life were her four grandchildren, Shannon Floyd (Jonathan) of Little Elm, Shelby Denison (Zach) of Denton, Jake Kerner (Robyn) of Washington, and Chad Kerner (Jamie) of Sanger, Tx. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and close friends who were like family to her.

The highlights of her life were her 5 great grandchildren, Landon Kerner, Colin Kerner, Kori Kerner, Jameson Floyd, and Jaxie McGaha.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Pastors Buster Noah and Garry Jordan; to the Trio Home Health and Hospice nurses; to neighbors Marvin and Lisa; and to (niece) Teresa Young and close friend, Roseann Beck, who each tenderly cared for her and provided extra support.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors, Funeral services will begin at 2:30 with Rev. Buster Noah officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, Ruby wishes that donations be made in her memory to Asbury United Methodist Church 117 West Hercules Lane Denton, TX 76207.
