IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ryan Matthew
Robinson
December 25, 1981 – October 2, 2025
Bold. Congenial. Adventurous. Passionate. Challenging. Fun. Energetic. Audacious. Creative. Libertarian. Friendly.
Ryan Matthew Robinson was born on Christmas Day 1981 in El Paso, Texas. He didn't stay in Texas, for his family transported him to Alaska, where he thrived in the outdoors. He went to an elementary school in the woods, where he could look out the school window and see moose and bald eagles. There were snow caves to build and mountains everywhere.
Then his parents, those scoundrels, moved him to Plano, Texas. Ryan's mother happily enrolled him in Catholic school in the concrete jungle. His teacher, an ex-nun, schooled him in the discipline of sitting quietly. He was not a happy fellow.
Eighteen months later, he was transported again, around the world to Jakarta, Indonesia. He entered a large ex-pat international school. Here the adventures were much bolder, and he again thrived. Trips to Bali, Australia, Hong Kong, and a venture circumnavigating the world one summer, where he happily tried pasta in Italy, and sailed on an aircraft carrier in Virginia, back across the continent, and on to Irian Jaya and Jakarta. He was active in Boy Scouts here, with camping trips out into the jungle and the beach. It was a boy's life.
Then back to the USA, where, once again, his mother put him into Catholic school in Plano. Fortunately, this time was short, and it was off again, this time in the opposite direction-Moscow, Russia. Perestroika was going strong there. It was a bubbling cauldron of everything. He entered the international school, which was housed in the American Embassy. Pre-9-11, he would saunter into school in the mornings with embassy gates wide open.
He finished his schooling back in the USA, again in the Dallas area, again not really liking it here. He received a bachelor's degree in Russian and Journalism, then in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for several oil companies as a reservoir engineer. His dream was to go back overseas.
He leaves behind a grieving family, his parents, four siblings, and four nieces and nephews.
He would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to help others, especially the poor and downtrodden. He loved St. Therese the Little Flower and would find roses on all his journeys.
