IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sam
Roberson
November 27, 1928 – January 22, 2022
Sam Roberson of Aubrey, TX was born November 27, 1928 to John Grace and Clara Mae Roberson in the small community of Lois, TX. He passed peacefully from this earthly home on January 22, 2022, after battling dementia.
Sam graduated from Era High School in 1946 where he played the position of Center on the Era Hornets Football Team. His love of the sport never ceased in his adult life as Friday nights were consumed with Denton High and Ryan High School Football and Sunday afternoons were reserved for the Dallas Cowboys.
Following high school, Sam enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks, AK during his time of active duty (1948-1952). Sam learned to be an electrical mechanic and flew on several missions above the Arctic Circle.
After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, Sam returned to his family in Era, TX. He took a job with Bell Helicopter in 1953 and served the company for 41 years as an electrical mechanic. Although Sam moved from his Era boyhood home, he continued to farm the land and eventually purchased land in Green Valley where he found solace in the quiet nature with his cattle and horses.
In 1952, Sam met Joyce Faye Kidd in Gainesville, TX where she worked at a drugstore. After a nine year courtship, they married on May 5, 1961 in Denton, TX. Sam, Joyce, and her son Billy Eugene Goodman, became an instant family. In 1967, Sam and Joyce had a daughter, Patricia Renee. Sam was preceded in death by Joyce on August 11, 1977.
Sam was a faithful christian throughout his lifetime and a diligent servant at Singing Oaks Church of Christ. It is here that he met Joy Rippey Harris in 1985. They later married on November 2, 1991 in Denton, TX and built a life together for the next 30 years blending their families into a large, close-knit family.
When asked what Sam meant to those he touched, responses such as gentle, kind, admirable, sweet, honest, hard working, trustworthy, integrity, joy, cherished, beautiful father, and dedicated husband were words that people used to describe him. Phrases such as "most remarkable", "huge impact", "wonderful man", "one of my favorite people", "a blessing to us all", "a good man" surfaced as well. Sam's 93 year life touched innumerable lives, and in his death, has drawn us closer to our savior, Jesus Christ.
Sam is survived by his wife, Joy Roberson of Aubrey; Daughter: Patricia Bolz and husband Jim of Aubrey; Sons: Bill Goodman and wife Judy of Argyle, Danny Harris and wife Marilyn of Sanger, Jimmy Harris and wife Carolyn of Aubrey, Tod Harris of New Orleans, and daughter-in-law, Jean Ann Harris of Krum.
Sam has been blessed with 19 grandchildren, a slew of great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren was apparent in every conversation he had about them. His family and friends were the joy of his life.
Sam was also preceded in death by parents John Grace and Clara Roberson, brothers, Herschel Roberson and Claude Roberson, sister Gracie Roberson Olson and son Joe Harris.
