Obituary

Sandra Kay Zeller, born on October 1, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in North Richland Hills after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her students and community.

Sandra dedicated the most fulfilling years of her career to teaching Government at Castleberry High School in Fort Worth. Her passion for educating young minds was evident in her numerous trips to Washington D.C. with students and parents, where she instilled a love of learning, a respect for history, and an understanding of civic involvement. She cherished her job, the administration she worked under, the fellow teachers she collaborated with, and the students who filled her classroom. Sandra's commitment to her profession derived not only from her academic qualifications, having earned a Master’s degree from UTA, but also from her profound dedication to shaping future generations.

In life, Sandra was a devoted animal lover, enjoying the companionship of many pets throughout her years, including dogs, cats, and horses. As a teenager, she excelled in barrel racing and spent significant time honing her equestrian skills. Her love for her animals extended into adulthood, where she showed immense dedication to their care, keeping her horses until they experienced the natural end of their lives. This heartfelt connection to her animals was evident as she arranged for her students to assist in laying her horses to rest on her acreage, demonstrating her compassionate nature and willingness to involve others in meaningful experiences.

Family was of utmost importance to Sandra, and as an only child, she devoted many of her adult years to caring for her beloved mother, ensuring her wellbeing and happiness. While the path was often challenging and fraught with emotional trials, Sandra never wavered in her commitment. Her strength and resilience defined her character, making her a remarkable daughter, as well as a kind-hearted wife and friend.

Sandra's final years were joyfully spent with her rescue dog, Nikki, whom she affectionately referred to as her baby. A protective spirit, she had a special concern for Nikki’s safety, always vigilant against any potential threats from wildlife. Their bond brought her comfort and companionship in challenging times.

Beyond her career and responsibilities, Sandra enjoyed exploring various interests throughout her life, including UFOs and ice skating during her early teaching years. She found solace in her church, participating in Bible study and forging lasting friendships within her Sunday School community. Later in life, she immersed herself in puzzles and self-improvement literature, continuously seeking growth and inspiration. Sandra derived hope and peace from scripture, often sharing her testimony with others, demonstrating her faith through her actions and words.

Throughout her journey, Sandra was surrounded by a close circle of friends who supported her through various life challenges. Kristi Crane was her trusted hairdresser and spiritual confidante; Brenda Holloway provided significant support during the loss of her husband, Chet, who sadly passed away shortly after they married. Brenda Brown, a cherished friend since their early years as teachers, sustained a friendship that spanned over 52 years. Margie Kelley, her dear neighbor, consistently reached out, providing encouragement and camaraderie through life's ups and downs.  She was also very grateful for family member, Melvin Douglass, who continued to stay in touch with her and showed her love, and an interest in her life.

Sandra Kay Zeller will be lovingly remembered for her incredible dedication to education, her deep compassion for others, and her steadfast faith. She leaves a void that will be felt by all who knew her.
