Santi Lombardo
1934 - 2023

Santi, 89, of Miami, Florida, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, on the Feast of the Holy Family, in Argyle, Texas. He was born January 3, 1934 in Grotte, Sicily, Italy, to Angelo Lombardo and Concetta Scarcella.
Santi and his family migrated to Venezuela in 1948 leaving behind the devastation of the second world war while looking for a more prosperous future in a country that opened its doors to his family. There he completed high school and technical school graduating as a Hydrocarbons Technician. He was hired by Mobil Oil Company in 1956 to begin a long and prosperous career in the gas and oil industry.
While working for Mobil Oil Company, supervisors began to encourage him to pursue a college degree. Heeding that advise, he left Venezuela in 1958 to attend the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, where he earned his degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1962. While at OU, he met the love of his life, Sonia. They wed on October 28, 1961 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lawton, OK. Upon graduation, he returned to Venezuela with his young family, which by then included their oldest son Angelo. He worked for Creole, Texaco, Deltaven and Corpoven, eventually holding one the highest executive positions in the company as the General Manager for Gas Production and Refinery Operations in the eastern part of Venezuela. He retired in 1980 after a successful career and worked as a consultant in the oil industry for a couple of years thereafter.
Santi and Sonia's love brought forth his greatest treasure, their three children: Angelo, Rossana and Santi Jr. They lived in Norman, Maracaibo, Anaco and Caracas, before moving to Miami, Florida in 1981 to be close to their children who were attending college at the time.
His determination and work ethic were an example for many in his family. He was the first college educated member of his family, which inspired his younger brother, nephews, nieces, children and grandchildren to follow in his footsteps. His greatest pride was to see children and grandchildren graduate from college. His hospitality and sense of humor will be missed by many, especially his family. He was a member of Mother of Christ Catholic Church in Miami.
