Sarah Ellen Steel Hill
On August 11, 2015, Sarah passed away in Denton, TX. Sarah was 77 years old.
Sarah Steel Hill was born in Dallas Texas on November 25, 1937, she was the third child and only daughter of Ouita and Marshall T. Steel.
She was a graduate of Highland Park High School, attended SMU and earned her college degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. Her father was for many years the pastor of Highland Park Methodist Church on the SMU campus. As the youngest of three children and the only girl, she was sometimes referred to as the Princess of the parsonage. When Sarah was only 13 years old she took a trip around the world with her parents and among other things actually stood inside the great pyramid in Egypt. Over her life, Sarah traveled to all of the continents, including Antarctica.
On November 23, 1956 she married Norwood Oakley Hill. Over more than 58 years, they raise four children.
Sarah loved the great outdoors and having adventures. During her married years, Sarah fished at some wonderful off the beat locations like Great Bear Lake NWT Canada, Alaska, and the coast of Australia.
Sarah was a very giving person. Sarah was on the board and volunteered for Family Outreach after receiving her degree in Sociology from UTD. Her most recent volunteer service was as DFW ambassador. When she became your friend you remained friends forever.
Sarah loved music and sang in church choirs and more recently in the Brookhaven Community Chorus and the Denton Community Chorus.
Sarah learned to love golf while Norwood was serving in the air force. They were members of Brookhaven Country Club for the 30+ years in Dallas and later became members at Denton Country Club. All their children have learned to play golf with their parents and cherish their time on the course together.
Sarah's favorite hobby was sewing, she enjoyed making things for herself, friends, and family.
Sarah was predeceased by: her son David Hill, parents Ouita and Marshall Steel, and brothers William Steel and Robert Steel.
Sarah is survived by: her husband Norwood Hill, sons Lawrence Hill and Scott Hill, and daughter Jennifer Haggerty. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Jessica Hill, Maggie Hill, Lindsay Hill, Katie Haggerty, Jack Haggerty and Archie Haggerty. She is also survived by her beloved dog Tucker.
The family is hosting a visitation / viewing on Saturday August 15, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the DeBerry Funeral Directors at 2025 W University Dr, Denton, TX 76201. Due to construction on Hwy 380 consider entering from back entrance on Emery drive via North Bonnie Brae Street. Sarah has elected to be cremated, there will be a private memorial service for the family to spread her ashes on a future date
