IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Senta Eleonore
Starr-Holliday
August 24, 1940 – January 6, 2024
Senta Eleonore Starr-Holliday, 83, passed away peacefully on 6 January 2024, in Denton, Texas. In the days before her death, she enjoyed the company of family and friends as she said her goodbyes.
Senta lived life as one big adventure. She loved to share stories about her life with anyone that was willing to listen.
Senta was born on August 24, 1940, in Nowy Sacz, Poland to Arnold and Helena Decker. During World War II and following the death of her father, Helena moved Senta, her older brother Richard and the family nanny, Elsa to Vienna, Austria. They left everything behind taking only what they could carry with them.
During the war, Helena was able to keep the family together finally settling with Senta and Richard in Moulins, France.
While in France, Senta grew up and attended Catholic School. She loved to remind everyone that when someone stepped out of line, the nuns quickly corrected them with a slap of the ruler.
After completing school and moving to Paris, Senta met her first husband, Laurence Starr an airman from the United States, whom she married in Paris, on March 3, 1958.
Senta loved telling everyone when they were married in Paris the whole service was conducted in Latin and Laurence had no idea what he was agreeing to.
In November 1958, Senta immigrated to the United States and moved to Laurence's hometown in Broadview Heights, Ohio.
One of Senta's proudest moments in life was sharing how she was born in Poland, survived World War II and moved to the United States becoming a U.S. Citizen. Senta would not return to her birthplace for seventy years, making her only trip back to Nowy Sacz, Poland with her son, Robert in 2015.
With her husband's career, the couple moved several times, spending time in New York, Iowa, Georgia and finally settling in Denton, Texas. During this time Senta and Laurence would have four children, Laurence Jr., Monique, Barbara, and Robert.
Senta's first husband Laurence passed away in 1991 and Senta would marry her second husband, Robert Holliday in 2002.
In addition to taking care of the household, Senta worked full time as an Underwriter. She started her career with Safeco Insurance in Atlanta, and over the next twenty years Senta stayed with the company through several mergers retiring from Citibank as an Underwriting Manager.
Senta loved to sew and knit which she learned from her mother growing up. With these skills, you never knew what you might get from her as a gift. Just this last Christmas, she knitted toboggans for all the workers at her retirement community, Good Samaritan Society – Lake Forest Village.
Senta is survived by her son Laurence Jr., his two sons Bradley and Christopher; her daughter Monique Deloney, her three children, Charles, Rebecca, and Sarah, and ten great grandchildren; her late daughter Barbara Starr Foust's husband Dave Foust; and her son Robert, his wife Lea and their twin daughters Stephanie and Lauren.
Senta was preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Helena Decker, her brother Richard Decker, her first husband Laurence Starr, her second husband Robert Holliday and her daughter Barbara Starr Foust.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan Society – Lake Forest Village and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton for their love and care of our beloved mother and grandmother.
