Obituary

Shelley Anne Alexander was born on September 22, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas and passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023.  She is survived by her husband, her sister Sydnee, brother Chip, many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends who will miss her love, generosity, bravery, refusal to give up and bright smile.

Shelley was a ray of sunshine.  She has traveled to six of the seven continents and extensively in the USA. She especially liked Cruising and Vegas. Married to John for 30 years, she established a home in Denton County, and made many friends.  Shelley enjoyed all kinds of games.  As a young girl, she would be the first to suggest a family game night if she wasn't running the barrels on her quarter horse.

38 years ago, Shelley was robbed and shot in Dallas. She endured much but she persevered regardless of her challenges.  She powered through months of rehab to relearn how to walk and talk. Shelley never let her limitations get in the way and overcame them with strength, the help of her family, friends, and her beautiful smile.

Shelley volunteered at Scottish Rite Children's hospital in Dallas.  Because of her work, she won the prestigious Dallas Disabled Outstanding Volunteer of the year award, was interviewed by Clarice Tinsley of channel 4 news, and gave her first public speech in front of a huge audience where she bravely delivered it. Although Shelley did not have children of her own, she enjoyed the company of her husband, Siblings, friends, nephews, and nieces. She also loved her dogs and extensive stuffed animal collection which marked some of the milestones in her life. She also enjoyed decorating for the holidays.

Shelley adored watching sports. Rangers, Stars, Mavericks, Sidekicks and Cowboys games were a priority and always had the iPad ready to go if on the road. What she truly loved was the Mean Green and she stayed loyal throughout. The friends she made, the experiences she had and the recognition she received from the president, players, Coaches, and the Mean Green Staff were validation of her dedication. This made her very happy and kept her engaged.

Visitation will be held at the Hub Club at DATCU Stadium, Wednesday September 27, from 4-6:00 pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 6:00 pm.  We ask that those committed to bid farewell to this brave soul wear their Mean green, Stars, Mavericks, Cowboys regalia in her honor. SMU or Texas fans will be barred at the door. We know this would make her smile.
