Shirley Roberts, 72 of Port Charlotte, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. She was born in Denton on November 4, 1941.
Shirley attended Denton High School. She then moved to Lewisville where she raised her daughters. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. A devoted Christian, she never missed her daily prayers.
In the early 1970's, Shirley opened Hidden Treasures Antique Shop in Lewisville. In 1975, she took home a prized blue ribbon from the Texas State Fair for her display at the Women's Building. Shirley often startled the Lewisville Police Department when they found her loading up customer's trucks at midnight with antique merchandise.
Shirley had a strong work ethic and was dedicated to her customers. Her inquisitive nature and pursuit of antique knowledge paid off. In 1983, Shirley was named as Zone Director for the National Association of Dealers in Antiques.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday, December 15, at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 16 at DeBerry Funeral Chapel. Pastor Kenneth W. Wells will be officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
She is survived by her loving husband Don "Brat" Roberts. Daughters, Patricia Reed and husband Brent of St Louis, MO; Jana DeGrand and husband Darrin of Argyle, TX; grandson Derek DeGrand, granddaughters, Dara DeGrand, and Andrea Reed.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother B.L. and Dorothy McClendon.
To our Mama and Gan Shirley, although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that you are free from pain; we rejoice in knowing that you are with our Meme and Papa and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
