Stephen James Sweeney passed away on September 14, 2026, in Ponder, Texas. He was born on January 9, 1985 in Denton, Texas at Flow Memorial hospital.

Stephen was a beloved son, brother, friend, and above all else, a devoted father to his one and only daughter. She was the greatest love of his life, his pride and joy, and the most important part of his world. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his little girl.

Stephen carried with him a meaningful connection to his heritage. He was 1/8 Choctaw and was a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, a part of his identity that remains among the lasting pieces of his life and story. 

Stephen had a deep passion for the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were more than hobbies to him they were his peace, his happy place, and a big part of who he was.

Whether it was early mornings in the woods or a day on the water, he found joy in nature and the simple things in life.

As those who loved Stephen reflect on his life, they remember a man whose presence mattered and whose memory will continue to be held close. May he be remembered with tenderness, and may his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, his easy smile, his hardworking spirit, and the love he had for his daughter, family and friends. His laughter, stories, and the memories he created will live on in all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Nana and Pop, whom he loved deeply and spoke of often.

Stephen is survived by his beloved daughter, Jocelynn Sweeney, who was the most important part of his life, Jocelynn’s mother KerryLynn Clark, his parents, Joe and Brenda Sweeney, his twin sister, Stephanie, his younger brother, Shane, his best friend and cousin, Duane Sawers, as well as many other family members and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
