Obituary

Stephen Ray Whitworth, 50, of Denton, Texas, passed away on May 22, 2025, at Texas Health Presbyterian. He was born on August 15, 1974, in Irving, Texas, to Horatio Wallace Whitworth Jr. and Barbara Ann Clark Whitworth. He married Amy Elizabeth Morgan on October 22, 2016, in Denton, Texas.

Steve was a dedicated FEMA employee for over two decades. He was kind, selfless, slow to anger, and the most genuine, caring soul one could ever know. Because of this, he had countless friends and was well-loved by so many. He was the perfect husband and an amazing stepfather, present for all the milestones—including teaching both kids to drive. This alone proves the man's unending patience.

He enjoyed cars, playing darts, D&D, computer games, building computers, listening to music, learning about everything, and buying new tools even if he only used them once. He was an armchair physicist who even had a fondness for space elevators. One of his prized possessions was a book about space elevators that he purchased from a gift shop at NASA in Houston. Talk about dry as a bone—there were no pictures. But Steve loved it.

Steve was the king of dad jokes, much to his wife's consternation. He gauged how good his dad jokes were by the size of the sigh coming from his wife. The bigger the sigh, the better the joke, in his book. He was the best at spoiling the cats, brewing coffee, spraying wasp nests, and fixing all the problems just by walking into the room. He always brightened the day with his sparkling eyes and a wide grin. His presence on this earth is deeply missed by so many.

Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Geneva and Jimmie Clark of Roanoke, TX; his paternal grandparents, Horatio Wallace Whitworth Sr and Dortha Whitworth of Denton, TX; and his mother-in-law, Allison Morgan of DeSoto, TX.

Steve is survived by his wife, Amy Morgan; two stepchildren, Sadie and Seth Jordan; his parents, Barbara and Wallace Whitworth of Denton, TX; his father-in-law, James Morgan of DeSoto; his sister, Stephanie Davis, and her husband, Matthew Davis, of Denton, TX; his brother Wallace Whitworth, and his partner, Brandie Eubank, of Azle, TX; his brother Jack Whitworth, and his wife, Christy Whitworth, of Whitewright, TX; his brother-in-law, Wayne Morgan of DeSoto, TX; his brother-in-law, John Morgan, and his wife Lauri Morgan, of Burleson, TX; his nieces and nephews Zach Morgan, Stephanie Medcalf, Aaron Morgan, Vanessa Morgan, Savanah Whitworth, Miranda Davis, Jordan Parker, Cole Whitworth, Wyatt Davis, Trinity Whitworth, Shyanne Finkbeiner, Airian Moore, and Skyler Moore; his great-nephew James Parker; and great-nieces Aliyah Parker and Anna Finkbeiner.

Steve will be cremated, and details for a private ceremony will be shared with family and close friends. We invite everyone to leave messages in the online guestbook to memorialize Steve. In place of flowers, please donate to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association or the Denton Animal Support Foundation.
